2008 Burlington County Saint Patrick's Day Parade
March 1, 2008
Dear Parade Participant,
On behalf of Grand Marshal Jack McKee, Miss Saint Patrick, and the entire Saint Patrick's Day Parade committee I would like to thank you for taking part in the 2008 Burlington County Saint Patrick's Day Parade. Here is some information that you might find useful in your preparations for the parade. Enclosed you will find a copy of the Line of March, instructions, and other information that is needed for the 4th Annual Burlington County Saint Patrick's Day Parade which will take place on Saturday March 1, 2008. We ask that you please read the rules and regulations and familiarize all members of your group with them. This will help us ensure a smooth flowing and fun filled parade for all of those involved. If you have any questions about anything please feel free to email me at jlogue@mounthollyparade.com or give me a call at 609-230-9555 and I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. You can always visit our website at www.mounthollyparade.com for the most up to date information. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at the Parade.
Sincerely,
Jim Logue
Parade Director
Please read thru this information and pass it on to the members of your group. We are including a list of the day's activities, helpful hints and other information that you may require in order to make your day a successful one. This year's Parade will include an entire day of fun filled activities and we hope that you can join us for many of these events.
The morning of the parade the High Street Grill at 64 High Street will be having a Traditional Irish breakfast from 9-11 A.M. The cost of the breakfast is $9.00 and you can make reservations or get more information at www.HighStreetGrill.net or call John at 609-265-9199.
Also occurring that morning is the Shamrock Four Miler at Buzz's Tavern 100 Rancocas Road. Registration begins at 7:45 A.M. and the race begins at 9 A.M. The cost of the race is $15 before the race and $20 the day of the race. The race fee includes entrance fee, Beer and Hot Dogs along with some prizes. You can contact Marc at Buzz's Tavern at 609-265-8344.
At 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church the annual Parade Mass will be held by our Parade Chaplain Father Damian McElroy. We encourage every group to join us at this mass honoring St. Patrick our Patron Saint. Sacred Heart Church is located right on the Parade Route at xx High Street. I hope that all of you will join us at the Parade Mass.
The Parade will once again line up at the Fairgrounds Plaza at corner of Ridgeley Avenue and High Street. Registration begins at 11:30 A.M. We ask that a representative of your organization check in with the Parade Committee no later then noon on the day of the Parade. This is needed in order for us to make sure that the Parade will start on time and proceed in a timely manner.
Please look at the enclosed Line of March to see your position in the Parade. When you check in on the day of the Parade the committee will confirm that the location has not changed and direct you to your spot in the Lineup. We ask that your group line up in the spot that you are given and please do not move over to another position. The space that we have to line up is just enough to assembly all the groups and if you move to another spot you will be taking someone else's position.
At 12:30 P.M. the Parade opening ceremonies will take place on the Parade lead float. I hope that the members of your organization will assembly here at that time to join us in the Irish and American National Anthems and here from our Grand Marshal and other individuals. The Parade will begin at 1 P.M. and follow the length of High Street making a right onto Washington Street and then turning into the Township Parking Lot. We ask all groups to continue to the parking lot after turning onto Washington Street. Last year several groups stopped playing or walked off the street after turning onto Washington Street. Please continue all the way to the parking lot.
There will be a reviewing stand located at the end of High Street. We ask that Bands and dance groups that wish to perform please keep their performance to 3 minutes or less so that we can keep the Parade flowing along at a reasonable pace. When performing at the reviewing stand remember that this year's theme is St. Patrick the Bard Bless our Irish Music that has made our community great. Also review the enclosed judging criteria for more information on the judging.
One of the most important things to remember is that we ask you to keep a distance of about 30 yards between your organization and the one in front of you. When the groups bunch up it causes the bands music to run together, please be considerate of them and keep the proper distance. Remember when groups in front of you stop to perform you music stop as well. Wait until there is about 30 yards between you before you resume marching again. This will help make sure that we have a nice enjoyable parade for the spectators.
After the parade we hope that you will join us at the Parade's Official After Party located at Buzz's Tavern. Due to generous sponsors this year's event will be free. We have about ten Irish Bands playing on two stages throughout the day and night including such bands as The Bogside Rogues, Birmingham Six, Bareknuckled Boxers and many more. Buzz's is directly across from the Parking lot where the parade ends.
We suggest that if at all possible you position at least one vehicle from your organization at the township parking lot. We will be having limited transportation to the beginning of the parade and this will save you time waiting for a ride or a walk back to the beginning.
Candy or other items
There are a few rules and regulations that we ask all groups to follow. There is to be no throwing of Candy or other items during the Parade Route! Those groups that wish to distribute these items may hand them out to people along the streets. We do not want kids running into streets in front of groups and cars. Groups that ignore this request will be denied entry into next year's parade.
Noise
Please do not blow horns or sirens or other loud noise that drowns out the sound of the Irish Bands and dance groups.
Alcoholic Drinks
In accordance with local laws please do not let us observe your drinking in the Parade Route.
If you have any questions about the about Parade Details or Lineup Please feel free to call me at 609-230-9555 or email me at jlogue@mounthollyparade.com
